Program Planner, Office of Indigenization

Position Summary


Join a dynamic team in the Office of Indigenization, where you will play a vital role in supporting Indigenous students and promoting education within diverse communities.This multifaceted position involves program planning, student recruitment and advising, and ensuring that Indigenous students have access to the resources and support they need to thrive. You will actively participate in the implementation of the Indigenization Plan and provide guidance, assistance and advice to Indigenous students (potential and current) regarding JIBC courses and program offerings and will refer students to other resources and contacts, as required.

Duties include identifying and participating in recruitment opportunities, building relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous agencies/band offices/Friendship Centres/communities, and promoting the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) at career fairs and community events.

Additionally, you will assist with course selection and credential inquiries and assist with navigating internal services. You will also provide support to current and prospective students and educate them on courses, programs, course content, and scheduling.

In collaboration with various Schools, you will contribute to the seamless planning and delivery of programs, manage course materials and logistics, and ensure classrooms are equipped for success. The Program Planner schedules courses and instructors, monitors student enrolment, and identifies program requirements for instruction, equipment and classrooms.

Your role will also include developing processes for recruitment and advising, participating in special events and presentations, and creating content for the website, newsletters and promotional materials. The successful candidate will develop systems, processes and procedures to ensure effective and efficient program development and delivery.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Due to the cultural nature of the role, and in honouring JIBC’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA), preferential consideration and/or hiring will be given to qualified applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit).

  • Secondary school graduation, plus a minimum of two years’ post-secondary education in a related discipline such as business administration or First Nations Studies; Bachelor’s Degree is preferred;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in progressively responsible positions, preferably in educational administration and related management functions or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as per above;
  • The preferred candidate will be of Indigenous ancestry and will have extensive knowledge of, and experience with, Indigenous communities and organizations;
  • Background and experience in recruiting, advising, marketing, event planning, program administration and delivery as it relates to the unique characteristics and needs of Indigenous learners is desirable;
  • Experience with student databases and registration systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge of cultural protocols, history and cultural values of Indigenous peoples;
  • Knowledge and understanding regarding Indigenous post-secondary education.
  • Proven ability in identifying issues, problem solving, resolving conflict, obtaining consensus, and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts is essential;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
  • Superior organization skills;
  • Superior written and oral communication skills

What JIBC Offers:

We offer a total compensation package that includes Extended Health and Dental Benefits, and enrollment in the Municipal Pension Plan after six months. In addition, we offer 15 vacation days annually (pro-rated in first year), as well as other generous leave entitlements.

Salary Range: 

 

$61,898.76 to $70,302.96 per annum (BCGEU Pay Grid 18)

This is a regular, full time (35 hours per week) position. Applicants must be within a commutable distance to JIBC's New Westminster Campus. This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement.
