Casual Building Maintenance Worker

Position Summary


We are seeking a versatile and proactive Casual Building Maintenance Worker to oversee the upkeep, safety, and functionality of our facilities.This position provides maintenance services for JIBC owned and leased buildings and coordinates the work of specialty sub-contractors. Primary responsibilities include maintenance and repair of building systems, maintenance and repair of equipment and furniture, and assisting with statutory and regulatory inspections. In addition, the Casual Building Maintenance Worker will conduct subcontractor orientation, supervision, and safety. They will also perform administrative tasks.

This dynamic role involves hands-on maintenance and repair of various building systems including HVAC with direct digital controls, lighting, fire alarms, mechanical and electrical systems (e.g. plumbing, boilers, control panels, switches), as well as security and door systems. The technician will also maintain the physical integrity of interior and exterior spaces, performing tasks ranging from patching and painting to filter changes and daily rounds. In addition, the role covers equipment and furniture maintenance—from cafeteria appliances to specialty equipment and office furnishings. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory inspection requirements, conduct routine safety tests, and perform environmental sampling. This role also includes supervising subcontractors, managing contractor orientations, and processing essential permits. Administrative responsibilities such as responding to service inquiries, preparing maintenance reports, attending meetings, and assisting with procurement activities round out this comprehensive position.

 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal / customer service skills;
  • Experience in facility management and building operations;
  • Knowledgeable and trained in Delta Controls DDC;
  • WHMIS certification;
  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS);
  • Knowledge and experience with reading drawings, plans and schematic designs;
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs;
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Valid Drivers’ License.

Salary Range: 

 

$31.94 to $36.24 per hour (BCGEU Pay Grid 16)
