Fire Technician

Position Summary
The Fire Technician position is primarily responsible for the maintenance and operational support of course delivery. This role will work in a team environment and provide excellent customer serivce as both a team member and as a self-starter. This role works closely with the Fire & Safety Division staff and faculty in the support of course delivery and will have a strong relationship with staff, students, clients and contractors. This role is physically demanding with the daily requirement of lifting, pulling, pushing, walking, climbing stairs, carrying heavy equipment and driving and operating various fire apparatus.
The Fire Technician will support Live Fire and all practical training at the Maple Ridge Campus on a regular basis and ensure that the appropriate equipment is ready when needed and assist wtih regular and annual equipment testing. The Fire Technician will need to understand and adhere to al JIBC Policies and FSD Standard Operating Guidelines and also ensure that both the site and equipment is in compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- JIBC NFPA 1002 Certification an asset
- JIBC NFPA 1001 Certification (ProBoard/IFSAC) an asset
- OFA certificed Level 2 or 3 (preferred)
- Working knowledge of containment and confinement procedures for various fuels and chemicals, fire control and suppression techniques, material flashpoints, and fire behavior;
- Proven ability to maintain and repair a variety of fire equipment, small tools, training props and other related teaching equipment and aids;
- Demonstrated ability to operate other heavy equipment an asset;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills;
- Demonstrated ability to work in teams, resolve conflict within the team, and complete work assignments;
- Positive attitude with a strong focus in customer service excellence;
- Strong organizational skills and time management

This is a regular, full-time (35 hours per week) position. Must be within a commutable distance to JIBC's Maple Ridge Campus. This position works 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday at the Maple Ridge Campus. |
