Position Summary

JIBC's School of Public Safety is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Financial Advisor. If you're someone with a passion for financial leadership, strategic advice, and making a real impact, we want to hear from you!

As a Financial Advisor at JIBC, you will provide invaluable financial leadership, strategic analysis, and reporting to the School and its divisions. Your role will be crucial in guiding divisional leaders towards sound financial decisions by offering expert advice, developing budgets and forecasts, and optimizing costing models. You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the long-term financial viability and credibility of JIBC, identifying risks, and resolving issues to maintain organizational integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

Organizational Leadership:

• Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data for analysis.
• Undertake special projects to address portfolio requirements.
• Contribute to JIBC's overall success and strategic direction.
• Champion equity, diversity, and inclusion principles throughout all activities.

Relationship Management:

• Coordinate with team members to provide a seamless experience for stakeholders.
• Train cost center managers on financial processes and systems.
• Collaborate with Finance staff to optimize processes and reduce duplication.
• Share best practices and build financial models to analyze various scenarios.

Finance and Administration:

• Provide financial leadership, strategic advice, and reporting to divisions.
• Conduct financial modeling for program and contract costing.
• Support strategic decision-making through sound financial analysis.
• Advise on confidential budgetary matters to optimize resource utilization.
• Assist in the development of annual budgets and prepare forecasts.
• Monitor trends and advancements in finance to make recommendations for organizational improvement.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Academic:

• Completion of professional accounting designation (CPA) and membership in good standing with regulatory body (CPABC).

Experience:

• At least four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in financial analysis, variance reporting, forecasting and budgeting; managing a large number of cost centres or departments, preferable in a large, complex multi-union organization.

Other Knowledge/Training:

• Models respectful and inclusive workplace behavious and demonstrates a commitment to meaningful outcomes in diverstiy, equity and Indigenization.
• Ability to think innovatively and creatively in planning developing a fresh approach to existing activities, with a continuous improvement perspective and incorporating best practices
• Knowledge of financial accounting and management, control and reporting procedures, practices and policies.
• Knowledge of financial performance management, internal control systems and procedures and generally accepted accounting principles.
• Intermediate knowledge of enterprise computerized information systems used in financial and accounting applications, and ERP systems.
